Harrison County's twelve elementary Title I public schools have designed unique programs based upon unique school needs assessments. Title 1, an instructional program, helps qualifying elementary school students with basic skills and higher order thinking skills. This program benefits students through additional instruction by Title 1 teachers who have been trained in remedial techniques. These teachers offer their students opportunities to progress in basic and advanced skills, and recognize individual progress and good work habits. Components of Title 1 in addition to the basic program include:
- Parental Involvement
Our teachers notify parents about their children's progress to help them work with their children at home.
- Family Connections
Family Connection provides integrated educational services to families of disadvantaged preschoolers. Focusing on the family as a unit, it strives to assist children in reaching their full potential as learners, helps parents become full partners in the education of their children and provides literacy training for parents. Parents spend approximately forty-five(45) minutes each day in the child's classroom working on a child-directed activity.
- Extended Kindergarten
Extended Kindergarten enables disadvantaged students to attend kindergarten for an additional one-half day session while emphasizing social, emotional, cognitive, language, creative and physical development
